Are Solar tracking mounts prone to failure compared to fixed mounts? May 10, 2024

Photovoltaic (PV) systems have the option of using either fixed mounts or tracking mounts for mounting PV modules in different application scenarios. The photovoltaic tracking bracket is a solar support system that can self-adjust the angle of the PV parts according to the movement of the sun in order to maximize the capture of the sun and improve energy efficiency. However, due to their complexity and the movement of mechanical parts, there are concerns that solar mounts are prone to failure.

In fact, PV tracking mounts do seem to be a bit more complex for solar fixed mounts in terms of operation and maintenance. Here are some things to consider:

1. PV tracking mounts involve the movement of mechanical components such as drive systems, transmissions and sensors. These components may be affected by environmental factors, such as wind, rain, dust, etc., thus increasing the risk of failure

① Mechanical failures: PV tracking mounts use electric or hydraulic drive systems to realize the tracking function, and these mechanical components may fail, such as motor damage, transmission system failure, etc.

② Electrical failure: PV tracking bracket tracking system requires power supply and control, electrical components may fail, such as short-circuit wires, controller failure, etc.

③ Sensor failure: PV tracking mounts usually use light sensors or other types of sensors to monitor the sun's position and light intensity, and the sensors may fail, resulting in the tracking system not working properly.

④ Risk Failure: PV tracking mounts may be subject to additional risks when faced with strong winds and inclement weather. High wind speeds may cause structural damage or tilting of the mount, which may affect the tracking function.

2. Energy consumption and maintenance costs: Solar tracking mounts consume more energy to drive their motion system compared to fixed mounts. In addition, due to its complexity, maintaining and repairing PV tracking mounts usually requires more labor and economic costs.

In general, PV tracking mounts are more complicated to operate and maintain compared to fixed mounts, as well as having a certain risk of failure. However, this does not mean that the tracking bracket has no value. In the right application environment, PV tracking bracket can bring significant power generation benefits to improve, so you need to consider the economic benefits and reliability factors, choose the right solar mounting system for your needs.
